Amber Navran is a multi-faceted young composer who brings new meaning to the phrase "singer songwriter." Originally an instrumentalist, she has been playing saxophone and clarinet for 8 years, and is currently attending the University of Southern California as a Jazz Studies major. While in Los Angeles, she started to explore composition and, what started with one jazz standard, became a long list of original material with influences varying from Iron and Wine, and Madeleine Peyroux, to D'Angelo, and Stevie Wonder. Amber strives to come up with innovative harmonies and lyrics, and her jazz background offers a fresh take on different genres, often including rich horn arrangements on top of the musical styling’s of her talented band. She is currently recording her debut album as a singer songwriter, preparing to tour the West coast in May 2011, and performing her original music with bands around Seattle and Los Angeles. Her Seattle band has been together for three years, and is made up of award-winning young musicians studying music at many different colleges including: Devon Yesberger on piano (Berklee College of Music), James Prow on bass (University of Washington), Chris Copland on drums (Berklee College of Music), and Dan Wager (University of Miami). Together they have a blast putting on a great show for all ages and music lovers of all genres around Seattle every summer and holiday season. In Los Angeles Navran performs with the help of her fellow Trojans: Adam Bravo on piano (from Los Angeles, CA), Ben Rose on drums (from Princeton, NJ), Jeff Stein on guitar (from Danville, CA), and Alex King on bass (from Nashville, TN). More About the Instrumentalist: In her high school years she participated in several honor bands, playing lead alto in the Washington All State Jazz Band in 2008, being invited to play with the National Wind Ensemble in 2007, and playing 1st clarinet in the honor bands associated with Pacific Lutheran University and Eastern Washington University. She also participated in the State Solo Competition from 2004-2008, placing 5th in the solo clarinet division in 2007. Awards include: Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, John Philip Sousa Award, and outstanding soloist awards from the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the Stanford Jazz Workshop, and the Bellevue Jazz Festival. She’s studied privately with several amazing and inspiring musicians, including: Bob Sheppard, Jason Goldman, John Daversa, Kathleen Grace, Mary Kantor, Mark Taylor, Russ Ferrante, and Hans Tueber.
