Gracilyn Adams taught herself to play the guitar, opened for Blood on The Dance Floor and played at the world famous Whiskey A Go Go on the sunset strip — all at the age of 18. But her work isn’t what you’d expect from someone her age. They’re intense and self-assured, drawing from her own experience as an outsider that’s been bullied, but all the while keeping positive.

The Cathedral City, California singer/songwriter’s been around music for most of her life. Gracilyn started playing the piano at age three and wrote songs at the age of 11. She doesn’t cite any musical influences by name, it’s easy to pick out pop and punk and hints of Riot Grrrl in her style.

Forget that the fact that those feminist hardcore bands peaked a little before Gracilyn was born — she’s an old soul. More than that she’s been knocked down, but is still hopeful; she’s been hurt but sill wears her heart on her sleeve. All of that — and her raw potential — is what made her the first American teen to sign a collaborative arrangement deal with Preston Bevrly.

Gracilyn remains grounded with the help of her friends and family, who she calls with tongue planted firmly in cheek, "The Adams Family." Though she’s had setbacks like anyone else, she turns them into music and lyrics, with her fearless attitude and courage to overcome adversity a constant refrain in her musical journey.
