Scott Carter is the ninth of ten musicians in his family. Despite a classical start, Scott picked up the electric guitar at thirteen and was soon sitting in with Pilgrim and Trout, his big brother’s band and regional favorites on the Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington D.C. music scenes. Scott and brother Bruce would later go on to form the Carter Brothers Band, generating a loyal following of their own. Local success as a session musician and the use of Scott’s composition “Turn to Me” in a national television commercial inspired a move to Nashville in 1996. Carter’s writing skills were quickly noticed, winning him honors in national songwriting competitions such as Kerrville New Folk and the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Solo performances at Merlefest, Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival solidified Carter’s reputation as an engaging performer while studio works like East End Journal were released to critical acclaim. Scott currently resides in Nashville where he works as a performer, session musician and high school science teacher in Metro Nashville Public Schools.
