Residual Kid

RESIDUAL KID is a 3-piece rock band from Austin, Texas. They have been called a grunge band, a punk band and “the badass teen band that just might change rock music” (Huffington Post). Very simply: they are teenagers and they do play rock music - Deven Ivy (17) is the singer/guitarist and brothers Ben (17) and Max Redman (15) play drums and bass respectively. Despite their youth the band is a sophisticated blend of rock equally influenced by early 90’s grunge and today’s more interesting underground music.

After meeting and coming together at the behest of an instructor at a youth rock camp, Residual Kid began performing around Austin. Soon after arriving on the scene it was clear that Residual Kid wasn’t just a good kid band, they were just a good band - no qualifier needed. The band eventually released an EP to local acclaim and began performing at festivals like Fun Fun Fun Fest, Austin City Limits and SXSW (as well emerging artist festivals such as New York’s CMJ and Denver’s Underground Music Showcase) and gaining industry attention along the way. In 2014 the band did sessions with Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis, Steve McDonald (OFF! / Redd Kross) and with Andrew Kelman (Cat Power, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) at the Beastie Boys Oscilloscope Studios in New York.

In 2015 the band was signed to Warner Bros. Records imprint SIRE Records by SIRE founder Seymour Stein (who famously discovered the Ramones, Madonna, Talking Heads). Later that same year the band traveled to Europe for the first time performing at in clubs in London and at the Pukklepop Festival in Belgium, Oya Festival in Norway and Way Out West Festival in Sweden. When the band returned home they recorded their SIRE debut (SALSA) with Grammy nominated Chris “Frenchie” Smith (JET, ...Trail of Dead, Meat Puppets) at Bubble Studios in Austin.
