Mimi Zulu is an American singer, lyricist, and poet. In a recording career that has spanned almost 20 years, Zulu's repertoire has included: spoken word, jazz, soul, blues, hip hop, trip hop, psychedelic, electronica, funk, and R&B.
Mimi(the daughter of a carpenter and an artist)began her music career singing in local talent shows at the age of ten in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. After several years of deep practice and experience she formed an act at the age of eighteen. Mimi decided that putting her poetry to classical guitar, played by Elkin, would become her communication that she needed to express herself. Soon after, she was in need of some back beat and some deep bass. Then came the making of her first band Echinacea, which was her new experience in turning her poems into song. With a deep feel of psychedelic vibes and strong blues, the band started moving around the Midwest circuits of festivals and night clubs.
Then, after about 3 years with her jam band, she started really feeling her Hip Hop and Jazz influences and wanted to create something that would melt everything together! So... in 1997 the collaberation of F.U.Z.Z. was born. For the next 15 years Mimi, alongside many other incredible musicians, put together some of the greatest underground musical albums: Zen Jai Qwa, F.U.Z.Z., Overnight, Peace Of Mind, Group Mind and Tentacle.
Now, in 2013 with her newest creation, A Love Parade, an intimate look into the heart and soul of Mimi Zulu is to be felt. Created in her underground basement studio, up comes an album full of texture and truth. Please enjoy the next chapter of this incredible journey of sound, experimentation, and pure Joy!
