While it’s true that everyone has a story, Hayley Sales’ sounds almost fictional. The young singer-songwriter grew up on a blueberry farm in Canada, has interviewed the Dalai Lama, traveled the world surfing, and self-penned and produced both her major label debut, 2007’s “Sunseed,” as well as her latest studio effort, 2012's “When The Bird Became A Book.” Sales learned her craft by singing along with Judy Garland on her parents’ record player. As a teenager, she picked up the guitar and started writing songs inspired by artists like Dave Matthews, Ben Harper and Jack Johnson. These multi-generational influences are prevalent in her music. Sales’ albums are entirely her vision: she wrote the songs, assembled the musicians, produced the tracks, and contributed acoustic guitar, piano and vocals. "When The Bird Became A Book" has the same familiar, organic feel as her debut, but the recordings have evolved with help from her father, co-producer Richard Sales. The album also features guest appearances by G. Love and Donavon Frankenreiter, and Sales recently filmed a video for the single, “Just Pretend,” with director Josh Forbes (The Fray, Sara Bareilles). Sales resonates with audiences around the world. Whether she’s winning “Best New Mainstream Artist” at the Canadian Radio Music Awards or being named an “O’Neill Girls Ambassador," Sales is infectious. "Making music that is getting airplay while at the same time bringing the heart of music back into the music industry,” says Sales, “that is what I hope to do.”
