Tijuana-raised and L.A.-based Ceci Bastida has just released her new album La Edad de la Violencia (The Age of Violence) on Cosmica Records. Produced by XXXChange (Spank Rock, Kele, The Kills) and Luke Top (Fool's Gold), the album was born of Bastida’s anxiety over the growing violence not only in her home country of Mexico, but in the United States and beyond—from Sandy Hook and the Boston Marathon to the US-Mexico dug war. Despite the darkness of its themes, the album pops with electric color, skating tropi beats, lush strings, and blasts of brass. Before her solo career, Bastida was a member of Tijuana NO and one of the first women to rise in the ranks of contemporary Latin rock.  Their song “Pobre de Ti” and their cover of The Clash’s “Spanish Bombs” are now considered rock en español classics. Her 2010 solo debut Veo La Marea, earned her a Latin Grammy nomination and featured guest spots by Diplo, Rye Rye, Niña Dioz, XXXChange, and Tim Armstrong.
