Switchblade Jesus (Corpus Christi, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/SwitchbladeJesus/

Hailing from the land of oil and tar Switchblade Jesus is a 5 piece equivalent of a heard of elephants slamming into a brick wall. Jamming together since 2010 they had a killer ride so far – playing live nearly every week they were forged to a unbreakable live unit. They played a shitload of shows with great bands – just to name a few: Kylesa, Orange Goblin, The Sword, Wo Fat, Egypt, Baroness. Asked what the fans can expect of the band, the guys state: Loud alcohol fueled heaviness laced with fuzz and slight hallucinations of tube amps piercing your mind. …that is a word!

“Upon first listening to Switchblade Jesus you may be hit with some conflicting reactions. They certainly play stoner rock and they sound like much of the rest of the stoner rock world available throughout the webisphere and beyond. But then you realize, hey, they play stoner rock and they sound damn good! There is deep, demonstrable musicianship and passion on each track. That combination is the hallmark of metal acceptability – the ability to not just play and sing, but to demonstrate a fierce, abiding aptitude as well as massively relishing the opportunity to play.” - Nuclear Dog, Heavy Planet

Funeral Horse (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/FuneralHorse/

“If judged on the merit of riffs alone, Texan tarnation masters Funeral Horse would be a holy grail of hard-rock. The constant shifts from road-rage solos to dusty blues riffs to pavement cracking noise-rock/hardcore to vintage 70s hard rock backed by a walloping rhythm section will keep you guessing and ducking for cover as to which direction the bombardment is coming from next. With band members lovingly named Paul Bearer (vocals/guitars) and Jason Andy Argonauts (bass), the entire project has the recipe for sheer global conquest via tongue-in-cheek humor laced into a serious, non-nonsense rock foundation.” Jay S. - Teeth of the Divine.

“Anyone who wants more from their stoner rock than chewed repetitions of a sound we heard countless times before can advantageously turn to the upcoming album from Funeral Horse. Where many others in the constant flow of riff-based rock band for a life in the absence of their own creative initiatives, these Houston-based men refreshingly disrespectful of genre boundaries and preconceptions about how it "should" sound.” Maria van der Lee - Slave State Magazine (Sweden)

The Smashed Idols hail from Houston, Texas where we rip up the scene with hooky guitar, bass, and drumz. We like to mix it up with hot space sauce and alien lyrics. Generation Landslide! (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/GENERATIONlandslide-146761458684303/

GENERATION:landslide! is a band whose voice comes from the heart and soul of Houston, TX. There's a raw element here seemingly absent from a great deal of the current bands that are touring and trying to make it. When I say "raw", I don't mean idiotic monkeys bashing things, needles peaking and your ears going into shock. No. These people are songwriters...artists...audiophiles. They have a great passion for music and the common man. They are the champions of "garage"-rock and psychedelia; a band of seekers. The band consists of Tom Underwood on Guitar/Vocals, Kathie Muncy on bass/Vocals, Wil Hudgens on guitar/vocals, and Charles Zittle on drums/vocals. The band's first recording effort, "Tomorrow Was Yesterday", was engineered by Steve Bundrick at (the now closed) Z-Lab Studios in Houston, TX (Bundrick has also filled in on drums from time to time). It features the guest talents of Greg Trifaldo, Greg Varhaug, and David Watkins. Tom's songwriting could be considered somewhere in the neighborhood of Warren Zevon, Lou Reed, and Tom Petty. There's a strong pop sensibility with a raw punk edge. Now, currently engaged in working on material for their next recording effort, the group will be taking a break from live performances until sometime next year. GENERATION:landslide! returns to playing out starting on March 19 at Notsuoh, we will be debuting our newest member, Sellers Thomas. Sellers will be replacing longtime guitarist Wil Hudgens who has left to pursue other musical ventures

A. Sinclair (Austin,. TX)
http://www.asinclairmusic.com/

"Their debut release, “Pretty Girls” is a grouping of jittery, garage-rock jams with a healthy dose of group choruses, fuzzy vocals and steady percussion. A. Sinclair is a mature project aiming for honesty and joy in the music itself. They’re not flashy or glamorous, finding more musical satisfaction in simple tone work and phrasing. The pace is always quick and varying; boosted by a sense of urgency and a clear message." -Audiotree

El Lago (Houston/Galveston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/ellagoband/

Galveston, Texas might be known as a coastal destination for Texas vacationers, but for the pedal soaked music of El Lago, Galveston is home. Mixing sounds that remind you of what would happen if Cocteau Twins and Ringo Deathstarr covered the music of Spiritualized, the band has been known to cause a stir with their dreamlike performances.

The four piece has always crafted plenty of soundscapes to complement the vocals of lead singer and guitarist Lauren Eddy, and their recent recordings with Austin Sepulvado (Buxton, Dollie Barnes, Ancient Cat Society) and Grammy winning engineer Steve Christensen (Robert Ellis, Khruangbin, Destiny's Child, Steve Earle) seem to capture the magic that the band crafts together on what will become their debut full length release.

Debut full length 'Colors' is was released on November 4 on Miss Champagne Records. The band is set to perform and tour in support of the album throughout 2018.

Thirty Years of reckless abandon!

Do you live life to the fullest? This is a question that for thirty years now has been challenged by a formidable group known as the Skatenigs. A band of heathens that has survived like cockroaches navigating life’s ups and downs making no excuses for their unconventional lifestyles or lack of. Phil Owen (aka Phildo) developed a brand of music that stole from every aspect of outlaw genres such as punk rock, heavy metal, rap, hillbilly and every sacred rock and roll anthem vulnerable to its taking. After landing a deal with the Chicago based Wax Trax Records, through an introduction from his Revolting Cocks cohort and Ministry’s main man Al Jourgensen, Phildo penned the now classic song “Chemical Imbalance.” Years of reckless abandon would result later signing with Megaforce Records, known for their connection to breaking Metallica, a classic episode of “Beavis and Butthead,” video plays on MTV’s Headbangers Ball, several successful tours with Ministry, KMFDM, GWAR, FEAR etc. and a failed European tour with TOOL which brought the band to a break up that would later be revived by Phildo. 2016 brought the release of the band’s most current album “Adult Entertainment for Kids” which features videos for the songs “Taste” and “At War with Myself.” This album currently is streamed in 51 countries and has assured the Skatenigs are anything but forgotten! Join Phildo and his band of creetons as they rise from the gutter to bring you an undeniable experience that is sure to be on your bucket list!

If you are new to the world of modern board games have no fear, everyone is awesome and you'll have a great time. We have all types of games; social games with easy rules and lots of interaction or more competitive games as well as cooperative ones. “You’ve heard our name, you’ve seen our records, our t-shirts and our stickers. We’re probably the favorite band of someone you know and yet maybe we’re still a mystery to you. Well my friend, that’s okay, you’re at the right place to get to know the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world, The Supersuckers.

And the next time you see the ‘Supersuckers’ name, whether it’s in the record store, online somewhere, or on the marquee at your local rock club, know that there’s some quality, honest, ass-kicking, hard working individuals behind it all trying to make your life a little better through the “Evil Powers Of Rock-n-Roll” (and the occasional detour into the country music, of course) and we’d love nothing better than to have you there with us as! Just remember to wear clean underwear, ‘cuz we’re gonna rock the pants right off of you!” – Eddie Spaghetti, The Supersuckers

<![CDATA[The Bellrays, The Atom Age, Modfag]]> http://rudyardspub.tunestub.com/show.cfm?id=289022&cart&buy

The Bellrays (Riverside, CA)
https://www.thebellrays.com/

If music is food for the soul, then The BellRays are Thanksgiving and they know how to cook. The BellRays strip down to the meat of what music means to them. Growing up in SoCal, they thrived on radio channels that broadcast more than one kind of music. It was a party. ‘Punk Funk Rock Soul’ is their party with their songs and friends.

“We take our ear where our heart lives in simple song-writing, making ourselves and hopefully all who hear it feel good,” explains singer Lisa Kekaula. “We are proud of its simplicity and love how the new songs sound like old friends. This release is a collection of songs that illustrates why we do what we do. We are not 20 year-olds and that’s okay. We are proud of our mileage and journey and PUNK FUNK ROCK SOUL validates our comfort in what music means to us. Viability, trend and meaning are up to the eye of the beholder. For the record…we like to rock.”

The Atom Age (Oakland, CA)
https://www.facebook.com/pg/theatomage

The Atom Age find their inspiration from the dust covered collections of unhinged 60’s punk and R&B, whose crazed energy was once misconceived as a better fit for your trashcan than for your turntable. While taking many of their cues from these primitive pilgrims of punk, The Atom Age still strive to lay down their own modernized take on the sound. The band’s new record, Hot Shame, was co-produced by Blag Dahlia of the Dwarves, and channels a wide range of influences from bands like The Sonics, Link Wray and the Murder City Devils.

Modfag (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/Modfag/

MODFAG a name that will go down in infamy or bring much amusement at dive bars. This is reverb party music that is perfect for those that like to cavestomp. A perfect mix of classic 60’s garage with some 70’s glam to taper off the kick. Featuring members of Born Liars, The Freakouts, The Wrong Ones & Gun Crazy.

<![CDATA[The Hates]]> http://rudyardspub.tunestub.com/show.cfm?id=292304&cart&buy

The Hates (Houston, TX)
http://www.thehates.com/

The Hates has been called "Houston's first and last punk band", and with over thirty years of blood, sweat, and that familiar mohawk, those words may be more true than their author ever knew. From his very first live show in 1978, Christian Arnheiter (now Kidd) has steered this legendary band through decades of disco, pop, new wave, hair bands, hip-hop, crossover country, and now the newest fad of tribute bands to keep punk rock alive.

In a time when many early eighties groups are getting back together to play reunion shows, the Hates have the distinction of being the oldest continuously performing unsigned punk band. And despite the love/hate relationship the local music scene has had with punk rock over the years, the Bayou City will always be their home.

Hearts of Animals (Houston, TX)
https://heartsofanimals.bandcamp.com

In all of the years of reviewing records, the one I didn't get to would haunt me for what seemed like forever. When Houston's Hearts of Animals dropped the 2014 album Another Mutation, I was sad that I never got around to giving it a proper review. I walked around with that misstep noodling around in my head for a good while, that is until I heard an early version of their latest record, Human Size. The days of lo-fi aesthetic are gone and replaced with a more focused and fuller sound than on previous records. Where past albums from the band sounded like a mere solo project, Human Size takes the band's mesmerizing set from the first Day For Night, and capitalizes on it in every way. In just nine songs they remind you why you're such a fan, and why you'll probably always be as well. — Houston Press

Mountain Tamer (Los Angeles, CA)
https://www.mtntmr.com

Mountain Tamer formed their signature fusion of heavy psych and stoner rock in 2011 on the outskirts of San Francisco. Featuring guitarist and vocalist Andrew Hall, drummer Casey Garcia and bassist Dave Teget, Mountain Tamer garnered local success with their hypnotic live performances, incorporating lucid jam sessions and traditional stoner/doom structures, seamlessly blending splashes of psychedelia with metal.

After self-releasing several demos, the band released their s/t debut album in 2016 on Argonauta Records in Italy.

Mountain Tamer toured heavily following the release, playing with notable acts along the way such as Mondo Generator, Weedeater and Dead Meadow. Gaining momentum performing across the US, the band signed with Magnetic Eye Records out of NY along with Nasoni Records in Berlin to release their second full length offering. Godfortune//Dark Matters released digitally in August, 2018 on Magnetic Eye, which will be followed by a vinyl release of the album in September through Nasoni.

The album has already received critical praise from multiple blogs and publications for its unique approach and genre-bending aesthetics.

“The album ‘Godfortune Dark Matters’ displays a spectrum of songwriting talent that captures some of the best tonalities from the ’90s grunge scene and the modern stoner metal/rock movement.” – Metal Assault

Salem's Bend (Los Angeles, CA)
https://salemsbend.com/

Three dudes crawled into a garage-turned-studio and dug out some tracks from the nether realms of Sabbath, Priest, Toad,Zeppelin, and other '70s rockers. Infusing those with a multitude of other musical entities, they subsequently slithered out as Salem's Bend.

Atalla (Sorry, no info at this time)

Black Road (Chicago, IL)
https://www.facebook.com/BlackRoadChicago%20/

Hailing from Chicago and inspired by the great artists who came before, Black Road has set out to create a sound that simply FEELS GOOD. Merging rock, stoner metal and doom, the heavy blues explosion captivates the listener. With a cassette and vinyl release through DHU Records (Netherlands), as well as a CD release with BloodRock Records (Italy), Black Road is already pumping out the grooves all over the globe. Be sure and catch a live show if you can, because the songs are even more powerful and kick ass when performed live!

Grifters and Shills (Houston, TX)
https://www.facebook.com/griftersandshills/

Grifters & Shills - amplifyin' and testifyin' for your soul.

His was hard rock and heavy metal. Hers was the classic sound of the East Texas piney woods. Theirs was a fiery collision, bearing forth a sound that was at once novel and instantly familiar--nodding to roots seated deep in high lonesome harmonies and back porch blues, while peering out at a scorched path bound by modern assertions and contemporary commentary.

Behind Grifters & Shills is John and Rebecca Stoll, native Texans who met in a classic rock/blues jam band in 2008. Between them they discovered a magnetic chemistry that manifested not only in music, but in all aspects of their relationship. When they began playing as a two-piece band, they found a unique voice in the combination of Rebecca's East Texas vocal stylings and John's formidable guitar work. They immediately began writing their own songs, while testing the waters of vocal harmonies and adding an array of instrumentation to their arsenal. A typical show will feature a delightful range of electric instruments, including John's archtop guitar, Rebecca's bass, a driving stomp board, a couple of cigar box guitars, a handful of harmonicas, and an occasional kazoo.

They call it high lonesome heavy metal, and together, this two-person, dozen-instrument act provides a show full of sound a fury, punctuated with raw, quiet vulnerability, forging new trails and shining new light on familiar ground.
